Ad Content for:   Indiana Beef Evaluation Program (IBEP) 2009 Fall Sale

Check out this advertiser's website at: http://www.ansc.purdue.edu/ibep/.

Sale City/State: Springville, IN on 10-17-2009

The 64th Indiana Beef Evaluation Program (IBEP) Sale will be held Saturday, October 17, 2009 at 2:00 pm at the Springville Feeder Auction, Springville, Indiana. The sale will be held with the Springville Feeder Auction Association's Bred Heifer Sale. There are 36 bulls in the sale - 25 Angus, 1 Gelbvieh Balancer, 6 Simmental, and 4 SimAngus. Detailed information about the bulls is available on the IBEP web site, http://www.ansc.purdue.edu/ibep/.

There were 72 bulls in the 2009 Summer Test, consigned by 26 cooperators from Indiana, California, Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri, and Ohio. Breeds included Angus, Gelbvieh Balancer, Simmental, and SimAngus.

Bulls are fed a moderate energy diet, consisting of corn silage, wheat silage, corn grain, and protein, mineral-vitamin supplement. This allows them to express their genetic potential for growth, yet not put on excess condition.

Bulls are evaluated for growth rate, breeding soundness, carcass merit, structural soundness, and disposition, and frame size is recorded on each bull. The performance index is a combination of the bull's daily gain during the 125-day test and his weight per day of age. Carcass merit is evaluated using ultrasound measurements taken by a CUP certified technician. EPDs are provided on all bulls.

The IBEP test is conducted at the Feldun-Purdue Agricultural Center in Bedford, Indiana. Our facilities are practical - outside, mounded lots with open-front sheds and fence-line bunks, TMR feed delivery - all very comparable to the management and environment many of the future progeny of these bulls will be in.

IBEP conducts two tests per year: a Winter Test for bulls born January 1 through April 30, and a Summer Test for bulls born May 1 through October 31 of the previous year.
